18 lucky pupils from across First to Third鈥痀ear, got to see Paddington, London鈥檚 most hotly听anticipated听and sold-out show. From the opening bars of Mr Gruber鈥檚 Curiosities, we knew we were in for a treat. We all sat on the edge of our seats as the cast filled the stage, a train whistle sounded and out of the crowd appeared Paddington the bear! In the flesh! Despite seeing his voice actor with him on stage, and seeing the body performer during the bows, no one can tell me that听wasn鈥檛听the real Paddington making his West End Debut.听I鈥檓听not ashamed to admit that this听particular drama听teacher was a weeping nostalgic mess by the end of the evening. From dancing oranges to a pigeon fluent in cockney rhyming slang, the production felt like a real love letter to London and its eclectic mix of people, as well as a testament to how far a little kindness can go. If you can get tickets to see it鈥 do!鈥听
A听group of Drama scholars听also听went to visit the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama to get a better understanding of what drama school training is all about. It was fascinating to be shown around by a current student and, as one scholar put it, 鈥榙emystify鈥 the Drama School experience.鈥疉s well as seeing the performance and workshop spaces, we鈥痺ere toured around the costume,听scenography听and tech departments. Seeing signed posters of all the Third Year shows backstage鈥痑lso鈥痚xemplified鈥疌entral鈥檚 incredible alumni, and听I鈥檓听sure several left the building wondering if their name would one day adorn the walls.鈥听
In the evening, we then got to see the beautiful and heartbreaking 鈥楪uess How Much I Love You鈥 at the Royal Court.鈥疓oing into it, we knew to expect a difficult and complex piece of theatre, but we were all blown away by the quality of the writing and acting鈥痺hich worked harmoniously to explore the鈥痶raumatic story of a couple鈥檚鈥痯regnancy.鈥疍iscussions after the show exemplified听our scholars鈥欌痶houghtful and analytical approach to theatre, as well as solidifying the emotional impact and power that a good piece of鈥痙rama can have.鈥听
As we鈥痩ook forward to the half term break, we鈥痑lso鈥痯repare ourselves for another busy鈥痯eriod鈥痺hen we return;鈥痺e have鈥痮ur first ever scratch night of new writing by the听Sixth鈥疐orm, our GCSE & A-Level students will perform their final鈥痵cripted pieces and our junior actors will take to the stage in Emil & The Detectives.听
Lots to look forward to and we听can鈥檛听wait!鈥听
